Residents are being asked to give their views to shape transport upgrades improving travel links and road safety.
Improvements are being proposed at three locations to make travel smoother and safer for people walking, wheeling, cycling – especially for children travelling to and from school.
Tees Valley Combined Authority is carrying out public consultations on the proposals. Public feedback will be considered before any final decision is made and members of the public are now being urged to give their views either online or at a series of in-person events.
The three locations and proposals are:
Stainton Way, Coulby Newham, Middlesbrough
Improving connections between King’s Academy School and the Parkway Centre, including proposals for new traffic signals at the junction of Stainton Way and Dalby Way and a new two-way wider and safer walking, wheeling and cycling route from King’s Academy to Dalby Way.
Improving connections towards James Cook University Hospital, including proposals for new and improved road crossings on Green Lane and closing Thackeray Grove and Lambton Road to vehicles.
A one-way system for traffic coming from Lexden Avenue to Levick Crescent, reducing traffic on Levick Crescent is also proposed.
Improving connections from Wynyard to Hartlepool, including proposals for traffic calming and speed reduction through Wolviston and widening of the path and crossings around the A689 Wolviston Road Roundabout.
To find out more about the proposals, and to complete an online survey, members of the public can visit the Tees Valley transport consultations page.
The in-person events where people can give their views will be held at:
The public engagements focus on improving bus and active travel – walking and cycling – across Tees Valley as part of a wider £310million in secured regional funding for transport.
Cllr Steve Harker, TVCA Cabinet Lead for Transport, said: “We want to ensure we have a high-quality, affordable, reliable, transport network that makes it easy and safe for pupils to get to school, patients and carers to get to hospital and employees to get to work.
“The people who know their local area best are those who live and work there – so it’s essential that we get their views to ensure any changes are the very best they can be.”
